“london branches” is a thrown clay artwork inspired by the bare branches and gray mood of the streets in northwest London where I live. The piece reflects the everyday atmosphere of the gray winter, with its tree-lined streets stripped of leaves, capturing a sense of stillness and quiet familiarity that has become my new world after moving here from the Upper East Side of New York City. I used a combination of underglaze and slip trailing techniques to create delicate, textured patterns resembling the intricate network of branches. These methods allowed me to bring depth and movement to the piece, while the muted, earthy tones evoke the subdued beauty of a London winter.
Living in London has shaped my creative process, and this artwork is a reflection of how my surroundings inspire me. It’s a personal exploration of honing my skills while connecting with the environment around me.
